Local Patch Scaup (17th May)
Coming back from town around 7pmish and since I was walking back near the res's I thought I'd give them a go despite not having phone, camera, bins or scope with me. It was only a brief jog around the place which produced a single flypast Kingfisher, 1 Treecreeper and my target species, the drake SCAUP, which had been found a couple days ago whilst Dan and I were down at the Lizard. It was fairly close to the southern bank so it was thankfully easily IDable without bins. It was sitting patiently on the water, floating gradually towards me before it began diving. The extended white wing bar was quite obvious as it rose out of the water to flap its wings, omitting Lesser as a possibility.
